SMH Good Food Guide 2013
"Don't diss The Rocks - it's not all fluffy kookaburras and opalescent bling. Slide into Baroque and feast those peepers on a jewel-like display of patisserie. Beautiful desserts really are the major draw here, not that the rest of the smart, casual bistro menu is without its charms. An entree of duck liver and port parfait is generously proportioned, meltingly rich and deeply savoury, while grilled reef fish works well with its accompanying red claw yabby, mussels, kipfler potatoes and lobster bisque. However, a dish of grilled Bangalow pork tenderloin, crisp pig's ear, heirloom carrots and pear puree suffered from being tepid and a little dry, perhaps after languishing too long at the pass. To finish, the intriguingly named 'Zulu' turns out to be a dome-shaped confection of velvety Valrhona chocolate mousse layered with salted caramel ganache on a biscuit base, with berry puree, a mini macaron and a quenelle of vanilla ice-cream. Phew."

MX Sydney - 27 January 2010
"For some reason, many of the city’s truly Gallic haunts tend to be mired in stodgy old-school French cooking that needs to be washed down with a full bodied red.
Enter Baroque for a breath of fresh air (or should I say garlic)... "

Time Out Sydney - 25 January 2010
"The macarons at Baroque are worth the trip alone. Colourful, with a crisp, glossy outer shell and soft meringuey interior, they come in flavours such as rose-scented cream, salty caramel and olive oil and vanilla. You can order a selection of three with tea or coffee for $10. Baroque is a solid offering for the Rocks. Sydney needs more bistros and casual eateries like this one."

"La Renaissance Cafe Patisserie on Argyle Street are opening a bistro. Seventeen-year veterans of The Rocks, Sally, Christophe and Olivier Charkos say the opening of Baroque Bistro Patisserie will fulfill the dream of the late Pierre Charkos - the family patriach... So, let you all restaurant doubters eat cake, no one's gone baroque this week."
